# Attachments

> Attach files or links to a document, before or after sending

Appendix items (files and links) attached to a document are automatically available to recipients
when the document is shared.

## Add files or a link

1. Open the document.
2. Click the **Appendix** tab in the side panel.
3. Add your files, or click **Add link** to enter a URL.

Appendix items are immediately available to anyone with access to the document.

## Add files from the email composer

When you write the sharing email, click the appendix count in the footer to add
or remove files without leaving the composer. Files added there are attached to
the document, so every recipient of the document can access them, not only this
email's recipients. Sending is available once the appendices finish updating.

## Supported file types

Alongside common documents, images, and archives, CAD and BIM files can be attached: `.dwg`, `.dwf`, `.dxf`, `.pln`, `.ifc`, `.rvt`, `.dgn`, and `.skp`.

## Add files or links after sending

You can attach new files or links **after** the document has been sent.
Recipients can access them without any further action on your part.

<Tip>
  Appendix items added after sending are immediately visible to all recipients
  — no need to send a follow-up.
</Tip>

## Drop a file into the document

Dropping (or pasting) a file directly into the document body, rather than
into the Appendix panel, auto-converts it into content instead of adding a
plain attachment:

| File type | Result |
| - | - |
| `.csv` | Inserted as a table |
| `.vcf` (vCard) | Inserted as one or more contacts |
| `.ics` (calendar) | Inserted as a meeting / attendance entry |
| `.eml`, `.html`, `.md`, plain text, or a URL | Inserted as structured content in the document |
| Image (`.webp`, `.jpeg`, `.png`, `.gif`, `.svg`) or audio (`.m4a`, `.ogg`) | Uploaded and inserted as an image block |
| Any other file type | Uploaded as a plain attachment (Appendix) |

## Rename an attachment

To rename an attached file:

1. Hover over the attachment in the **Appendix** panel.
2. Click the rename icon <Icon icon="pencil" size={16} /> that appears.
3. Enter the new name and confirm.
