# Visibility and permissions

> Understand who sees documents and how to manage access in detail

## Default rules

By default, documents are visible to organisation members with the `admin` and
`member` roles.

Guests cannot see documents.

## Fine-grained control with team folders

To manage permissions more precisely, use team folders.

This allows you to invite people external to the organisation.

In this case, in addition to members, guests have read and write access to
documents in that team folder.

## Change folder type

You can convert a regular folder into a team folder (and back) from the
<Icon icon="ellipsis" size={16} /> menu.
