# Table of contents

> Display a summary based on the document's headings

The Table of contents block automatically generates a summary from the headings
in the document.

  To add this block, type `/toc` or `/contents` then select
  <Icon icon="book" size={16} /> **Table of contents**.

## Heading levels

By default, all heading levels appear in the summary.

To filter which levels are shown:

1. Click <Icon icon="grip-vertical" size={16} /> to the left of the block.
2. Select **Heading level**.
3. Check the levels to include.
